DESCRIPTION:In the 18th century\, Maria Theresa ordered the creation of acc
urate maps for the entire territory of Vorderösterreich. These maps were
intended to depict land use in order to achieve better taxation.\n\nWith t
he help of QGIS\, the old maps were georeferenced and then merged into a c
omprehensive map of the municipality of Görwihl.\n\nAdditionally\, themat
ic maps (Ice Age\, artificial streams\, geological maps) were created\, wi
th descriptions linked to them.\nIn the second part we look at the floodin
g of 1480 at the Rheinarea where QGIS helped to show the dimensions of flo
oding in the villages.\n\nThe presentation covers the capabilities of QGIS
that enabled the various visualizations\, as well as the limitations of a
GIS system for this type of application.
