DESCRIPTION:iTowns is an open-source\, community-driven web framework desig
ned for geospatial data visualization\, navigation and interaction. It pro
vides seamless 2D/3D rendering in a single\, integrated package. Sponsored
by the french National Institute of Geography (IGN) and Ciril Group\, iTo
wns benefits from institutional and industry support to ensure long-term d
evelopment and innovation.\n\nBuilt with extensibility and interoperabilit
 y in mind\, iTowns out-of-the-box supports commonly-used OGC's open format
s and protocols. This includes:\n- fetching aerial photography and raw ele
vation data from WMS\, WMTS and TMS servers\n- stream in large 3D datasets
 : 3D Tiles\, pointclouds\; ...\n- import various vectors formats: vector t
 iles\, geoJSON\, GPX\, ...\n- and those requested by the community!\n\nThe
iTowns team would like to share the recent technical developments and fut
ure roadmap of iTowns and present its ecosystem. We have on-going work for
a major 3.0 release\, aimed at offering a serious alternative to propriet
ary geospatial solutions. Thanks to NGI NLNet founding\, we hope to offer
support for a street-view alternative using Panoramax datasets\, WebGPU ac
celeration and AR/VR for popular headsets.\n\nThe project's roadmap is ope
nly accessible and can be adjusted collaboratively\, allowing sponsors to
initiate top-down changes and users/contributors to propose bottom-up modi
fications. This dual mechanism ensures a dynamic and inclusive process for
roadmap updates. Currently\, iTowns has a strong French community\, with
the addition of a few European contributors. With the upcoming 3.0 release
and this conference\, we hope to convince more players across Europe to j
oin the project\, fostering a more diverse and collaborative open-source g
 eospatial ecosystem.
