DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, we'll review the major milestones that have defi
ned Spatial SQL as the powerful tool for geospatial analytics that it is t
oday. \n \nFrom the early foundations of the JTS Topology Suite and GEOS a
nd its application on the PostGIS extension for PostgreSQL\, to the latest
implementation in Spark SQL using libraries such as the CARTO Analytics T
oolbox for Databricks\, Spatial SQL has been a key component of many geosp
atial analytics products and solutions\, leveraging the computing power of
different databases with SQL as lingua franca\, allowing easy adoption by
data scientists\, analysts and engineers. \n \nThe CARTO Analytics Toolbo
x is a comprehensive library that provides advanced geospatial functionali
ty through Spark SQL. It enables Spatial SQL analytics at scale providing
the foundational tools for analyzing and visualizing geospatial data. \n \
nIn this talk we'll cover the technical aspects of the library implementat
ion using Open Source technologies\, as well as demonstrating the installa
tion and practical usage with a real-life example. \n \nOur talk will go t
hrough some of the geospatial operations that can be performed directly in
Spark and we will demonstrate how users of the Analytics Toolbox can crea
te beautiful map visualizations leveraging the latest Open Source renderin
g tools\; and how to address a wide variety of spatial use cases using oth
er products built on top of open source technologies\, like CARTO and Data
 bricks.
