DESCRIPTION:The National Land Survey of Finland has made a strategic decisi
 on to pursue increased use of open source solutions in its activities. We
 ’ve been an active user of FOSS4G solutions for more than a decade. Furt
 her\, we created an open source mapping framework Oskari\, which has an ac
 tive user and developer community.\n\nIn autumn 2020\, the National Land S
 urvey of Finland made a major decision to build our new topographic data p
 roduction system on open source components\, such as QGIS and PostgreSQL/P
 ostGIS. The decision has raised a few eyebrows and a lot of interest among
  other national mapping agencies as well as other institutions using geosp
 atial software. This talk will discuss\n-	on what grounds we made such a d
 ecision\n-	how we are progressing with the implementation\n-	how we are lo
 oking at engaging in collaboration with open source communities\n-	and mos
 t importantly\, why every public sector organization should consider the b
 enefits that can be gained by using and investing in open solutions.
